FAA Program Director says OneData and the ISO 11179 standard are key components of implementing enterprise architecture
Englewood Cliffs, NJ - March 27, 2006 - The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has successfully completed the implementation of Data Foundations' OneData software. OneData, along with the ISO 11179 component, will be used to manage the FAA Data Registry (FDR), which contains aviation-related terms, data elements and other information that are used, shared and interchanged throughout the agency as well as with other organizations in the industry - governmental and commercial, domestic and international.
In view of the critical nature of the FAA’s mission, the quality and reliability of its information and information systems is of the utmost importance. The need for accurate, consistent, and shareable information is critical, and was the primary factor that led the FAA to develop the registry. OneData as commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS) replaces an existing custom application, and expands the stewardship audience to a larger user community.
"We selected OneData because of its ability to implement the complex ISO 11179 model and the governance processes around it, in an easy to use, extensible framework," said Diana Young, Program Director at the FAA. "The implementation was completed successfully with no custom software development. We see OneData as a fundamental tool in the enterprise information architecture," she added.
"The ISO 11179 meta-model and governance processes is the first of many templates that will be configured and pre-packaged with OneData,” said Deepali Khanduja, Data Foundations' Chief Technology Officer. "It proves that OneData as a package software product can be used for a variety of enterprise data management needs, ranging from a standards-compliant metadata registry to a flexible platform for a universal Master Data Management (MDM) solution."
