Enterprise Information Management

Enterprise information Management (EIM) solutions are the binding layer for the organization that provides consistent interpretation of the business data and help create & maintain the data. The business data could cut across various domains and it is important to provide semantic consistency across the multitude of systems in an enterprise.

EIM encompasses both structured and unstructured data. Structured data includes sharaeble components in the organization such as reference and master data sets, metadata, taxonomies and registries. Unstructured data includes content and definitions.

The breadth of the components and the multitude of systems requiring semantic consistency offer its own set of challenges.

  • Multiple interfaces to underlying systems and for access.
  • Inability to collect all the information assets.
  • Lack of business ownership of domains.
  • Various standards of integration within the organization.

OneData's Role in EIM Framework

OneData is one of the tools that can fit into any EIM Framework. It provides the framework and web based access to the various kinds of information assets in an enterprise in including (but not restricted to):

  • Master Data
  • Reference Data
  • Metadata
  • Taxonomies
  • Content
  • Registries
  • Glossaries and dictionaries

OneData provides for a persistent repository and includes a virtual layer to provide a pluggable solution for EIM requirements.

OneData addresses a very important challenge in developing the framework for EIM : 'How and Where do I start/How do I document the various shareable components in my enterprise ?'. It has a built in semantic layer that allows for the standardization and harmonization of the semantic differences. It also provides a means to resolve and rectify the inconsistencies in the information assets.

To facilitate information exchange, OneData provides several mechanisms with built-in scheduler and error handler.

  • Messaging (JMS)
  • Outbound distribution - Files/FTP, XML, remote procedures, remote databases
  • XML data interchange
  • WBI broker interchange
  • Web Services

OneData provides a web based front end for configuring and access to the information assets. It has built in built-in granular security, workflow and change management capabilities to ensure secure access and to promote collaborative management of the information.
